Can you describe your innovation to your mom? Last night I was on the phone with my mom. She’s 80. But has the energy of a 60 yr old.
She was asking me about my work. “So Cin, what’s going on with that company you’re going to help?”

“Sure. So for this one, I’m going to help teams of scientists get better at giving presentations . The first step is , I go sit in on something they call a “Portfolio Review Meeting.” That’s the meeting the scientists present AT, the same one I’m going to help them get BETTER at. First, I’m just going to observe.”
“Uh huh.” (Hmm… I get the feeling she’s not getting it…)
“So Mom, going to this meeting is like giving the team of scientists an EKG. I’m going to perform an EKG on their messaging … so I can see what’s going on from the inside…
This will help me see where they are already awesome, where they need help, who’s in the meeting, who’s asking questions, what’s the mood – there are all kinds of ‘markers’ I’ll be looking for. Then, with the results, I will know what kind of ‘surgery’ I need to do in the 2 day workshop next month.”
“Ohhh!! I get it now, oh that’s perfect Cindy. That makes total sense.”
[Heart problems run deep in my family, and my Dad – and I – have regular EKGs, so that is a language she knows well. ]

✅ ALERT!
If you can explain your innovation clearly to your MOM, you’re on the right track with your messaging! (I often challenge my clients to actually do this. )
How about you? Can you explain your innovation to your mom?
